Paxton Mine Incident – Ode to Fallen Miners

April 16, 2013

RR+R extend our sincere condolences to the families, co-workers and employers affected by the Paxton Mine incident last night. Our thoughts are now with those involved in the recovery efforts to bring them home.

This morning Gary Raymond, RR+R Chaplain penned an Ode to these miners, and others, who have fallen in their chosen career.

ODE TO A MINER.
You mined the earth to help us all,
surrendered your life, in a sudden coal fall.
You stayed below with faces black,
never again to surface, or come back.
You gave your life to mine black gold,
displayed your courage, exceptionally bold.
We that remain, honour your sacrifice,
we will never forget, that terrible price.
With heavy hearts we say goodbye,
but know our thoughts of you, will never die.
Gary Raymond APM, OAM,
