Women in Mine Rescue

January 17, 2015

Like the mining industry, Mine Rescue was forged in a male dominated environment.

The term miner, or mine rescue, conjure’s images of male camaraderie in the harshest of work environments.

These are places where mateship thrives and friendships are forged for life.

Over the last 15 years throughout the mining boom the industry embraced women and for the first time in its 220 year history reflected the culture, norms and attitudes of the wider Australian community on issues such as employment and the rights of women.

Female Mine Rescue Team members were well represented at the 2015 NSW Mines Rescue Challenge and an integral component of many of the representing teams.

Congratulations to the Women in Mine Rescue.
